I’m often amazed at how concerned many people are about the dangers of environmental toxins and yet do little research on how they can take charge themselves.
Last year more than 1 billion lbs of pesticides were sprayed on fields and orchards in the US alone to control bugs and pests that could damage or destroy the crops. These pesticides, often dropped from crop-dusting planes or sprayed from farm vehicles coat the fruit and crops. This fine dust also gets into the air, and a significant amount finds its way into the water system. Add to this, the fertilizers we put on our lawns, and the household chemicals and pharmaceuticals that we flush down the sink.
So when you bite into that delicious apple, or eat that fruit salad, or refresh yourself with a glass of tap water, just think a little further. Are you consuming residues of the crop-dusting or someone elses pharmaceuticals that just found their way into your water supply?
That’s why so many people today are using a water distiller to produce water to a much higher level of purity – and absent the environmental toxins.
Distilled water is produced by a unique 3-stage process that is unlike any other water treatment method. Here’s how:
1) Your tap water or well water is first boiled. The prolonged rolling boil far exceeds the recommendations of your local health department. This ensures you kill bacteria and other biological contaminants that may be in the water.
2) The H2O molecules change from a liquid state (water) to a vapor (steam). This natural process is incredibly effective in purifying water because the pure H2O molecules that make up the steam lift away from the contaminated water leaving behind virtually all the contaminants.
3) After the steam is created it is separated and cooled. The cooling process converts the steam into very pure water, which we know as distilled water.
The distillation process is consistent and so is the water quality. Filters and reverse osmosis do not use this process and do not get the same results. Interestingly FEMA recommends distillation but not filters when there is a water emergency like we saw with Hurricane Katrina.
Distillation is a wonderful process and distillers are available today that operate as an appliance in your home or office. But just a word of caution. Not all distillers are equal. Purchase a well designed stainless steel distiller and be sure to ask if the heating element is covered in water at all stages in the process. Not all are. The low cost Chinese-made distillers typically boil all the water away leaving a dry boiling chamber which gets very hot before shutting down. This can have a negative effect on the quality and taste of your distilled water.
