Home Water Distillers
Homeowners purchase water distillers to produce high-quality water for drinking, cooking, beverages, ice cubes, pets, steam irons, aquariums, and house plants. In some instances, distilled water is used for personal hygiene and even bathing. Water distillers for the home can offer protection from possible contamination, but they also produce great tasting water that your whole family will enjoy. Imagine not having to buy bottled water again. You will be saving money and the environment. Fill up your stainless steel bottles at home and enjoy fresh water on the go. Our Midi Classic Automatic Water Distiller produces up to 7 gallons of water a day, while our Mega Classic produces up to 12 gallons of water daily. Automatic units tap into your water line and produce pure water on an automatic basis as the storage tank empties out. You can also transport water to your refrigerator or sink using an optional demand pump. Our countertop water distiller, the Mini Classic CT, is a manual unit that you fill much like a coffee maker, that produces approximately 0.8 gallons of distilled water per batch.
Commercial Water Distillers
Businesses such as restaurants, office buildings, and motels buy distillers to provide water for drinking, ice cubes, food preparation, humidifiers, cleaning of electronic equipment, and watering of office plants.
Industrial Water Distillers
Distilled water has many industrial applications. It is used in factories and processing plants for boilers, food processing, pharmaceutical production, printing, photography, electroplating, and production of electronic products.
Institutional Water Distillers
Schools, hospitals, and nursing homes use distilled water for drinking water, food preparation, analytical chemistry needs, medical testing, and preparation medicines.
Laboratory Water Distillers
We have a variety of distillers for laboratory use under the Pure Water Scientific Brand that produce anywhere from 25 gallons to 630 gallons of distilled water daily. They can be networked together for more water and we have smaller models available if less than 25 gallons is needed. We can provide a variety of grades of water to meet specific lab needs. Our distillers are used in facilities around the world, including university laboratories.
Contaminants Removed by Distillation
Distillation is generally recognized as an effective broad spectrum water treatment method; it will effectively reduce many different kinds of contaminants. Distillation is often the treatment of choice when the contaminants are biological or organic in nature.
Biological Contaminants
Distillation is especially effective in removing biological contaminants such as bacteria and viruses. This is especially true for distillers that operate at near-atmosphere pressure or higher, as the boiling points of the water will be 100 degrees C (212 F) or higher. The effectiveness of distillation for reducing or elimination biological contamination is due to two principal phenomena:
The prolonged boiling action of distillation kills such microbes and other types of possible disease-causing life forms.
Microorganisms are not evaporated along with the water molecules; the “remains” of these organisms stay in the boiling chamber.
Because of these factors, distillation does not generally require that feedwater be potable water, and small distillers are often used in situations, such as campgrounds or wilderness areas, where the potability of the water is in question.
Inorganic Contaminants
Distillation also removes or reduces inorganic (mineral) contaminants very effectively. The amount of dissolved inorganic solids found in distilled water will be quite low, predictable only a few parts per million TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and removal rates of many inorganics will be as high as 99%. However, distiller operation is most trouble-free when feedwater has been softened or is naturally soft.
Organic Contaminants
Distillation is also effective in the reduction of a number of organic contaminants. In one study, a small household distiller was found to reduce Atrazine in feedwater by almost 80%. When used in conjunction with an activated carbon pre-filter or post-filter, as is the case in Pure Water Brand Distillers, the removal rate increased to over 98%.
Some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been reported to distill over with water vapor. In such instances, the installation of activated carbon pre-filter or post-filter with the distiller is recommended. Most, if not all distillers today are designed with a postfilter as standard. Distillers with vented condensing coils also assist in the removal of volatile organic substances.
Radiologic Contaminants
Many radiologic contaminants are isotopes of inorganic compounds. As distillers are very effective in removing inorganics, it follows that they would also be effective in removing inorganic radiologic contaminants. Test data on the removal of radiologic contaminants by distillation is limited.
Today, water distillation equipment is designed for a wide variety of uses. The equipment available on the market ranges in size from small countertop water distillers that produce a batch of clean water at a time to huge industrial plants utilizing large amounts of distilled water daily. We produce a variety distilled water machines to your specifications, made in the U.S.A. and built to last from quality stainless steel.
