Lumen Water Distiller Cleaner
n0oxy –
This is an excellent cleaner and descaler. Let me start by saying that I’m a blind person so I have to do everything by touch. I have five distillers including the mini classic which I will be reviewing separately. The bottom of most boilers is usually smooth so you can tell where the scale is because it has a rougher feel to it.
When I first got in to distilling water last year, I used vinegar to clean my first distiller. At the time I did not know about other cleaners. While vinegar works, it has a strong smell that can be difficult to remove. I’ve learned a lot about distillers since then.
Most descalers are made from either citric acid or sulfamic acid. I can’t read the jar but was told that the Lumen cleaner has both so you get the best of both worlds. So far I have used it with three of my distillers and it has worked great.
I suggest cleaning your distiller after every use, don’t just rinse it, use a cleaner each time. This way the scale never has a chance to build up and you won’t have to leave the cleaning solution in the boiler for several hours. Here is the method I use. Fill the boiler with a few inches of hot water, the chemical reaction of the cleaner will work much faster this way. Since I can’t see to measure table spoons of the cleaner I just pour enough in to cover the bottom of the tank with a thin layer. Now put the lid on and wait for 30 minutes to an hour. Remove the lid, take a paper towel and soak it in the cleaning solution. Wipe the bottom and sides of the boiler with the paper towel. Don’t use anything hard or sharp since this could damage the boiler, and if you clean the boiler after every use, a paper towel should be all that’s needed.
Using the Lumen cleaner with the cleaning process I just described as left the boilers nice and smooth which means all the scale is gone.
If you’re looking for a good cleaner for your distillers, get this. You get a lot for the price. I purchased two jars since I clean my distillers after every use. When I’m running low I will definitely be purchasing more.
