What is Vapor Distilled Water?
Vapor distilled water is produced through a process that mirrors the natural hydrologic cycle, essentially converting water to vapor and then condensing it back into liquid form. This process involves heating the water to create steam, which rises and leaves impurities behind. These contaminants could be chemicals, bacteria, viruses, or other unwanted toxins. The steam is then cooled and collected as purified water. The result is water that is free from dissolved solids and contaminants, providing a level of purity that is difficult to achieve with other purification methods.
Why You Should Drink Vapor Distilled Water
Drinking vapor distilled water offers several benefits, primarily related to its high purity. Here are some compelling reasons to consider making it a part of your daily routine:
1. Elimination of Contaminants: One of the most significant advantages of vapor distilled water is its near-total removal of impurities. Harmful contaminants such as lead, arsenic, nitrates, and other heavy metals are effectively removed during the distillation process. This makes it an excellent choice for individuals concerned about the quality of their tap water.
2. No Chemical Residue: Unlike other purification methods that may leave behind chemical residues, vapor distilled water is free from chlorine, chloramines, and fluoride. These chemicals, often used in municipal water treatment processes, can have adverse health effects over long-term exposure.
3. Consistent Quality: Vapor distilled water provides consistent quality regardless of the source water. Whether the water originates from a municipal supply, well, or other sources, the distillation process ensures that the end product is uniformly pure.
4. Improved Taste: Many people find that vapor distilled water has a cleaner, more neutral taste compared to other types of purified water. This can enhance the flavor of beverages and food prepared with distilled water.
5. Supports Detoxification: Due to its purity, vapor distilled water can aid in detoxification. It helps flush out toxins from the body without adding any new contaminants, supporting overall health and well-being.
The Difference Between Pitcher Filters, Reverse Osmosis, and Distillation
Understanding the differences between various water purification methods can help you make an informed decision about which is best for your needs.
Pitcher Filters
These are convenient and affordable options for improving tap water quality. They typically use activated carbon to remove chlorine, bad tastes, and odors. However, pitcher filters do not remove all contaminants, particularly dissolved solids and heavy metals, making them less effective than other methods.
Reverse Osmosis (RO)
RO systems force water through a semi-permeable membrane, effectively removing many contaminants, including dissolved salts, bacteria, and viruses. While highly effective, RO systems waste a significant amount of water and require regular maintenance and filter replacements. Additionally, they may not remove all chemical contaminants.
Distillation
The distillation process is highly effective at removing a wide range of contaminants, including heavy metals, chemicals, and biological impurities. Unlike RO and pitcher filters, distillation leaves virtually no residues, ensuring the highest level of purity. However, it is a slower process and may require more energy.
How to Make Distilled Water at Home
Making distilled water at home is a straightforward process that can be done with minimal equipment but it can be time consuming. Instead of using this method below, why not invest in a high-quality water distiller like our Pure Water Distillers. We’ve been manufacturing water distillers in the U.S.A. for over 50 years and our products are used in homes and businesses worldwide.
Equipment Needed
- A large pot with a lid
- A smaller pot or heat-resistant glass bowl that fits inside the large pot
- Ice
Steps to Making Distilled Water at Home
- Fill the large pot with tap water, about halfway.
- Place the smaller pot or bowl inside the large pot, ensuring it floats without touching the bottom.
- Invert the lid of the large pot and place it on top, creating a concave surface.
- Heat the water to a boil. As the water boils, steam will rise, hit the lid, condense into water droplets, and drip into the smaller pot.
- Place ice on top of the inverted lid to speed up the condensation process.
- Continue boiling until you have collected the desired amount of distilled water in the smaller pot.
- Allow the water to cool before transferring it to a clean container for storage.
This home method mirrors the water cycle on a smaller scale, providing you with pure distilled water for drinking, cooking, or other uses.
